Global Soul Showcase

GeeJay

Gee (vocalist and songwriter) and Jay (producer and multi instrumentalist) met in Harringay London when the pair were working as baristas in a music café. They quickly went from jamming on the café’s old piano to crafting their own distinctive style of music. Gee's strong, soulful and emotionally-charged vocals fit perfectly on top of Jay’s vintage jazzy chords and groovy rhythms, whilst the saxophone adds a further element to the melodic mix. With two EP releases under their belt, GeeJay have managed to amass over 12 million streams and have garnered widespread critical acclaim from the likes of The Guardian, Fearne Cotton (BBC Radio 2), BBC Radio 1, BBC 1Xtra, Jack Saunders, and CLASH to name but a few. After the birth of their child in July 2023, the pair took to the studio to finsh their debut album 'What's the Sun Without the Rain?', with its eagerly anticipated release date of May 28th 2024. The lead single from the project 'Stronger Than You Think' has already sparked the attention of Trevor Nelson (BBC Radio 2) who made it his track of the week, Jack Saunders (BBC Radio 1 Future Artists) and Robert Elms (BBC Radio London).

SAHRA

Berlin born London based, SAHRA has been emersed music and creation since a young age. Adept vocally and as a composer and arranger she has enjoyed support of taste makers Gilles Peterson, Jess Iszatt (BBC R1 Introducing), Victoria Jane (BBC R1) Sara Cox (Radio 2), Tony Minvielle and China Moses (Jazz FM). Plus live sessions at BBC Radio 4’s Loose Ends. She is a seasoned live performer having at We Out Here, BBC Introducing Festival,  London Jazz Festival, a headline show at Jazz re:freshed.

 

Victoria Port

After 3 albums with electronic duo Anushka (Brownswood, Tru Thoughts, BBE) Victoria is finally making the move to showcase her music, her way. She has received extensive support from taste makers Gilles Peterson, Jamz Supernova, Hugh Stephens and Annie Mac. She’s also been a regular on the U.K. and international festival circuit and featured on WheelUP’s recent album.

 

She will be showcasing her forthcoming debut solo EP ‘Miss Olive’s Daughter’ born from a lifelong appreciation of soul music offering a unique take on this art form with lush string arrangements.

 

Nellie Charles

Manchester-based UK R&B singer, songwriter, and musician has only released two singles but that has been sufficient to gain the attention of Gilles Peterson, Victoria Jane (BBC Radio 1), Kaylee Golding (BBC 1xtra) and she has already performed for BBC Introducing after being Tune Of The Week! All this heat has meant has featured heavily in the Global Soul Chart too!

Tallia Storm

With her powerhouse voice, infectious personality, and larger-than-life talent, Tallia Storm is the R&B singer / songwriter from Scotland. She is currently working on her upcoming EP with a Grammy award winning team behind H.E.R, Coco Jones & Ty Dolla $ign. Her career kicked off as a teen after being discovered by Sir Elton John and later found support from Nile Rodgers too!. A decade later, she’s adeptly balancing both a music and radio career as she spent the last year hosting Scotland’s number 1 radio station ‘Capital Breakfast’. Her musical journey is only just beginning and her recent single ‘Ballers’ marks the start of a new direction musically achieving much critical acclaim. She has enjoyed support from BBC Radio 1xtra and Spotify’s Editorial playlists. A talented writer and a soulful musician who brings Jazz and R&B vibes to her new-age soul music. Her song-writing abilities, combined with the raw tone of her voice, provide listeners with a warm and international sound. Whether singing about romance, heartbreak or even equality, she never fails to bring a perfect blend of strength and vulnerability to her music and her performance. Growing up just outside of London, Hari’s passion for song-writing was prevalent from a young age. Her father is a talented jazz musician which influenced a lot of her musical interest. She began performing at different venues in London, sharing her stories through song and discovering people’s desire to relate through lyricism.
