Everybody's Talking About Jamie: Inspired by a True Story

Out of the darkness…into the spotlight…back to the place where Everybody’s Talking About Jamie belong.

Everybody is talking about the West End’s first major musical to reopen. With a hotly-anticipated new film adaptation due to be released in February 2021, be one of the first to see Everybody’s Talking About Jamie as it triumphantly returns to the Apollo Theatre and celebrates its 3rd birthday!

Why is Everybody Talking About Everybody’s Talking About Jamie?

Everybody's Talking About Jamie took 2018 by storm, wiping the floor with the competition at the WhatsOnStage awards, whilst gaining significant recognition with five nominations for the Laurence Olivier Awards. Aside from the tear – jerker of a storyline, the musical score of Dan Gillespie Sells is equally as impressive, particularly given that it’s his debut as a musical theatre composer and orchestrator. Directed by Jonathan Butterell, Everybody ' s Talking About Jamie was inspired by a documentary about a 16 – year – old boy with a secret that he wanted to get off his chest. Fortunately, the Sheffield Theatres were inspired to go the whole hog and turn this enchanting documentary into a fully – fledged musical.

A Heart-Warming Tale of Overcoming Prejudice

Jamie New is a teenage boy from the heart of Sheffield living a humble life on a council estate. Despite having a good family life, he struggles to fit in and is terrified about the future for one big reason: his desire to be a drag queen is holding him back from being himself. Jamie is living a lie. But, with the love and support of his brilliant mum and school friends, Jamie overcomes prejudice and the bullies in the local community to step out of the darkness and firmly into the spotlight – and boy, does he make an impact! This fun, fabulous musical has a score that will have your feet tapping throughout, courtesy of a nine– piece backing band. Meanwhile, Jamie is portrayed by Noah Thomas. He is joined on stage by Melissa Jacques, Sejal Keshwala, Hiba Elchikhe, Gillian Ford and Phil Nichol as Hugo/Loco Chanelle, lead the show’s return back to the West End, with a twenty-five strong company and a nine-piece band that will ‘sweep you away on a tide of mischief, warmth and exuberance’ (Financial Times).

What the Critics Have Been Saying About Everybody's Talking About Jamie:

A dynamic, deliciously entertaining night out. A glorious tribute to what makes us human and a heart-warming appeal for acceptance. Let’s all keep talking about Jamie for as long as possible. – WhatsOnStage

A joyous punch in the air about following your dreams and being yourself. – Time Out

I think that it has such an impact for the same reason that Dear Evan Hansen, the musical that just cleaned up the Tony Awards in New York City, is such a success. . – Ann Treneman of The Times
