A Tribute To One Of The Best-Selling Artists Of All Time

Tina - The Tina Turner Musical follows the life and career of Tina Turner and how she became the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Born Anna Mae Bullock in Nutbush, Tennessee, Turner released incredible hits like ‘Proud Mary’, ‘Nutbush City Limits’, ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’, and ‘Simply The Best’.

Turner was a frequent record breaker, breaking the then-Guinness World Record for the largest paying audience for a solo performer in 1988. She also sold more than 100 million records worldwide, becoming one of the best-selling recording artists of all time. She received 12 Grammy Awards, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, 3 Grammy Hall of Fame inductions, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, won a Women of the Year award, and has her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She was the first black artist and the first woman to be on the cover of Rolling Stone. The movie based on her autobiography I, Tina garnered Best Actress and Actor nominations for Angela Bassett and Laurence Fishburne.

Turner sadly passed away in May 2023 from natural causes, and Tina - The Tina Turner Musical aims to keep her memory alive and celebrate her with every performance!

The History Of Tina - The Tina Turner Musical

The first mention of Tina - The Tina Turner Musical was in 2016 in a workshop presentation with Tina Turner in attendance. They presented their biographical musical about Turner’s life. The musical then had its world premiere in 2018 at the Aldwych Theatre in London.

The West End show was nominated for 3 Olivier Awards, 4 WhatsOnStage Awards, and 2 Evening Standing Theatre Awards. Kobna Holdbrook-Smith ended up winning ‘Best Actor in a Musical’ at the Olivier’s.

The musical opened on Broadway at the end of 2019, and was nominated for a staggering 12 Tony Awards in 2020. Adrienne Warren, who originated the role of Tina
both in the West End and on Broadway, won awards at the Tony’s and at the Drama Desk Awards.

Critical reception for the show has been amazing, with reviewers calling it ‘irresistibly uplifting’ (Hollywood Reporter), ‘as good as it gets’ (The Guardian), and ‘slickly choreographed, beautifully designed and roof-raisingly well-sung’ (The Daily Telegraph).
